Ever since Quentin Tarantino said at the Oscars After Party he will be making a Western next, fierce debate and speculation has surrounded what will come of the project. Now according to his close friend and colleague, Uma Thurman, Tarantino’s next project will indeed be his Western, which she says is called A Southern.

This is what she said to Hollywood Outbreak:

I think he has a script ready to start of a new film, A Southern, I think it’s really exciting. It’s another new story and a fresh piece of material that he is channeling at the moment. So I think Kill Bill lives down the road.

When speaking to Deadline at the end of last month, Tarantino said that this script “flowed out of him”, unlike his screenplays for previous movies Inglourious Basterds and Kill Bill which took 10 and 6 years respectively to come around. If rumor has it correct, this movie will subvert the Western formula and tell a story which Tarantino says “hasn’t been told before” and will reportedly be set around stories of slavery.

I was thrilled when I heard the Coens were finally making an all out Western with True Grit, and I’m quite intrigued now that Tarantino will finally be getting to make his all-out spaghetti western genre homage that he has been building towards in the whole latter half of his on going career. If reports from Ain’t It Cool News are to be believed, the film will have Inglourious Basterds Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz in the lead. Other names linked are Deadwood actor Keith Carradine, Treat Williams and Franco Nero.

Also discussed in that interview, albeit briefly, was a third Kill Bill instalment which as said looks to be “down the road”. Personally I could live without it, not a huge fan of the previous two movies which were overlong and self indulgent. I imagine that could be a few years down the line and will be concerned with the now blind Elle Driver seeking her revenge on the Bride.

Tonight in Los Angeles, Tarantino is unleashing his much mooted: Kill Bill The Whole Bloody Affair his 4 hour full length cut of his samurai revenge epic. So expect to hear words from that, the Western and another Kill Bill sequel tomorrow morning.
