A brand new banner (seen above) has been released today for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second part in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. Starring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular dragon Smaug, the film will also put out a new trailer tomorrow, so stay tuned for that.

As you eagerly await the new footage that will be arriving in less than 24 hours, you can feast your eyes on this blue-tinted banner, which is covered with spider webs that are undoubtedly foreshadowing those giant Mirkwood spiders. The banner also shows off our band of heroes looking ready to do battle with whatever fearsome threats they may face as they continue their journey.

I know a lot of people weren’t terribly impressed with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I wholeheartedly agree that it wasn’t Jackson’s best stab at Middle Earth, but it was a thrilling adventure that definitely left me excited for the second part of the trilogy.

The first trailer for the film, which released a few months ago, looked fantastic and promised more epic, large-scale action, some great new characters, stunning visuals and of course, the much anticipated battle with Smaug. Just based off what we’ve seen so far I truly think that those who were disappointed with the first instalment will be won over with Jackson’s second effort.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug marches into theatres on December 13th, 2013. Are you excited for the upcoming sequel, or are you tired of travelling to Middle Earth? Let us know in the comments below.
