Reese Witherspoon is all set to star in and produce a new film for Disney titled Happily Ever After. Said to give the classic fairytale princess story a new twist, the film will centre on a seemingly perfect couple who we catch up with “10 years after they have ridden off into the sunset for their “happily ever after.” As you can probably predict, despite living the perfect fairytale, the couple soon realizes that “you have to work hard to keep your relationship and your life together.”
The pitch comes from Don’t Trust The B—- in Apartment 23 creator Nahnatchka Khan, who just sold the idea to Disney recently and is now hard at work on writing the script before things can move forward. So don’t expect to hear any further news on this one for a while.
Personally, I don’t find anything about this project appealing, but I suppose there’s a market for it. It sounds like a ridiculously cliched story that will likely turn into a cookie-cutter film aimed at young girls and their mothers.
Maybe I’ll be proven wrong though. Maybe Happily Ever After (that title alone makes me cringe) will be a wholly enjoyable film, one that’s genuinely charming and offers a great twist on the classic tale. Actually, who are we kidding? We all know how this one is going to turn out.
