With Bryce Dallas Howard in talks for Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World, casting is now fully underway and today we’re hearing that Ty Simpkins has signed on for a lead role. We don’t have any details on who he’ll play just yet but his casting is official.
Though you may not be familiar with Simpkins by name, seeing his face would likely jog your memory as the young actor recently had sizeable roles in Iron Man 3 and Insidious: Chapter 2, as well as in the original Insidious.
Simpkins does show a lot of promise, despite his young age, so seeing him signing on to lead a huge film like this is definitely exciting and shows that the studio obviously has a lot of confidence in his acting abilities.
In other Jurassic World news, Trevorrow is apparently eyeing his Safety Not Guaranteed star Jake Johnson for a supporting role in the film. Nothing is official on that front just yet and unfortunately, we don’t know anything about the character that Johnson is wanted for. We can only assume that the actor will be asked to display his comedic chops should he sign on, which is something that I would welcome.
Jurassic World will hit theatres on June 12th, 2015. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as more casting details become available. For now though, tell us, what do you think of Simpkins taking the lead role? What about Johnson, would you like to see him provide comic relief?
