Over the weekend we heard that Charlie Hunnam had dropped out of the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film, which in this writer’s opinion, was a very smart career move for the actor. Today, we’re hearing that the studio has already found a few contenders to replace him.

Before we get into that though, US Magazine is reporting on some further details regarding Hunnam’s departure. Apparently, the actor was never really that into the project in the first place and wasn’t terribly eager to do it. Furthermore, insiders are revealing that there are problems with Kelly Marcel’s script, which now needs a re-write from Patrick Marber (Notes on a Scandal).

As for the replacements, Alexander Skarsgard and Jamie Dornen (of television’s The Fall), are the top choices right now. If those two options don’t pan out, Theo James (Divergent) and Christian Cooke (Romeo and Juliet) may also be looked at.

Personally, I don’t really have a preference here. I’m not at all looking forward to this film nor do I care much for any of the actors listed above. To be perfectly honest, I’m actually still struggling to believe that a Fifty Shades of Grey movie actually exists and it’s less than a year away. That being said, I am mildly curious to see how it does, both critically and at the box office, though I’m not expecting very much from it in either department.

The Sam Taylor-directed film is scheduled to hit theatres on August 1st, 2014, so expect to hear firm casting details shortly. For now though, tell us, who do you want to see replace Charlie Hunnam in Fifty Shades of Grey?
