Ok, so maybe the headline doesn’t make complete sense, but it does make just enough sense to work – “chill” out has two meanings, one of which relates to the theme of making something cold, the other as in settling down to do something relaxing. By playing on the double meanings, it sort of ties in to the theme of Frozen – Disney’s vague-in-the-loosest-possible-terms adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s classic fairytale The Snow Queen.
The mouse house has been working at the film on and off in various iterations for ages, since before 2002 (!), but with the changing financial markets and different public perceptions to snow, the weather and its relationship to human beings as triggered in the public consciousness by global warming, it just hasn’t appeared until now. I guess snow just doesn’t focus group well, it makes roads slippery.
I know we already saw a trailer for Frozen about a month ago, but this one gives us more of an idea of the Snow Queen’s motives, and a better look at the fun characters populating the film – the beautiful hero Anna (Kristen Bell), dashing mountain man Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), the aforementioned icy Snow Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel), and wisecracking snowman Olaf (Josh Gad).
It seems like they really missed a trick by not also making the reindeer, Sven, wisecracking. Along with Olaf they’d be a great little double act, possibly for a series of spin-offs. Who knows, maybe they’re saving that bantering gold for the actual movie?
One treat they did throw in to the trailer is the line “That isn’t a blizzard, that’s my sister.” It’s not a line you hear everyday, and there must be a fantastically surreal joke to create around that punchline, right?
Frozen is released on November 27th. Don’t… erm… ice? Does that work? Forget it, I just don’t snow anymore. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
