Fans of LittleBigPlanet can get ready for a surprise Halloween treat next week, as the PlayStation Blog has announced that both LittleBigPlanet 2 and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita will soon be getting new downloadable content based on the iconic stop-motion Tim Burton film, The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Most of the recent LittleBigPlanet DLC has been restricted to customizable costumes for protagonist Sackboy, and while a costume pack featuring film characters Jack Skellington, Sally, Dr. Finkelstein, and Oogie Boogie will indeed be available, this particular promotion will also include the first full level expansion in some time, with unique playable “Level Kits” for both the PS3 and Vita versions of the game. As with previous level DLC, various unlockable items will be included for players to incorporate into their own custom levels. These will include 5 physical objects, 8 texture materials, 13 decorations, 100 stickers, 1 interactive music track, 1 new sound object, and 1 new level background.

Comments on the blog entry confirmed that while there will be no Level Kit for LittleBigPlanet Karting (likely due to its entirely different gameplay genre and engine), the costume pack will keep in tradition with past outfits, will support Sony’s Cross-Buy program and will offer versions for all three titles once purchased. It should also be noted that as the PS3 and Vita Level Kits are unique from each other, they will have to be bought individually.

We will keep you updated on more news regarding the LittleBigPlanet franchise as it develops. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on this announcement in the comments section below.
