New Trailer For The Wolf Of Wall Street Promises More Cash And Corruption

Confirmed this morning to have a Christmas release date and a runtime of 165 minutes, Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street is finally starting to pick up a bit of steam, and it's about time. This is a film that I've been very excited about for a while now and aside from a trailer that hit a couple months back, we haven't seen much from it. It's odd too, considering the caliber of talent that is attached to the film. You'd think that the studio would be heavily promoting it.

Confirmed this morning to have a Christmas release date and a runtime of 165 minutes, Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street is finally starting to pick up a bit of steam, and it’s about time. This is a film that I’ve been very excited about for a while now and aside from a trailer that hit a couple months back, we haven’t seen much from it. It’s odd too, considering the caliber of talent that is attached to the film. You’d think that the studio would be heavily promoting it.

With a release date and runtime finally set though, it looks like the marketing campaign is ready to get underway and today, we have a brand new trailer for the film, which is based on Jordan Belfort’s novel of the same name.

Featuring a mix of both brand new and recycled footage, this 2 minute and 30 second preview gives us a better idea of what to expect from the potential awards contender. It brings with it a high energy as we see some more plot details and are introduced to all of the main characters. Everyone seems to be doing great work here but Rob Reiner looks particularly hilarious as Jordan’s dad and Leonardo DiCaprio seems to be at the top of his game as the titular Wolf of Wall Street. Could this film snag him an Oscar nom? I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.

For those who are unfamiliar with the source material, the film follows Belfort’s rise through the investment banking world as he goes from lowly analyst to starting his own firm and making millions a day. Greed, excess and corruption all factor into this wild and outrageous tales which sees Belfort become a multimillionaire by age 26 and a federal convict by age 36.

Though Scorsese’s film will be a bit more tame than the novel, The Wolf Of Wall Street still looks pretty crazy. I’ve read Belfort’s memoir and I can tell you that it’s an unbelievable story, with so many absurd and over-the-top moments that it’s hard to even believe that it’s true. It’s one hell of an entertaining read and judging by this trailer, it looks like Scorsese’s adaptation will emulate that feeling.

That being said, I’m a bit worried that too much will be cut out from the film, as the runtime was trimmed down and certain scenes were removed to get an R rating. But still, even with that in mind, with a cast led by DiCaprio and rounded out by Jonah Hill, Rob Reiner, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler and Jean Dujardin, among others, how much can really go wrong?

The Wolf Of Wall Street hits theatres on December 25th, 2013. Check out the new trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
