In what is perhaps the best news that we’ve heard all week, The Wrap is reporting that Orson Scott Card, the man who penned the celebrated sci-fi novel Ender’s Game, will not make any money off the feature-film adaptation that is arriving in theatres tomorrow.

The outspoken homophobe already made his movie deal years ago, according to The Wrap, and has already been paid. Since his agreement didn’t call for any backend money, he won’t see any profit from Gavin Hood’s adaptation. Furthermore, the report assures us that despite Card’s producer credit, he had zero input or control over the film, which is another piece of great news.

Now, none of this is to say that he isn’t still making a ton of money off of the book, because he is, he just has no share or stake in this current adaptation, which is reassuring to those who were hesitant to see it as they thought they’d be contributing to the author’s wealth by purchasing a ticket.

Hopefully this bit of news gets more people into the theatres to check out the film, because it really does look like an exciting sci-fi adventure. Though I haven’t read the novel, I’m eager to see what all the fuss is about. The film has a great cast and so far, the reviews seem to be generally positive, with our own Sam Woolf giving it 4 stars.

Tell us, will you be seeing Ender’s Game when it soars into theatres tomorrow? Are you happy to hear that Orson Scott Card won’t be seeing a dime from the film? Let us know in the comments section below.
