Prometheus 2 Has A Finished Script, May Release in 2015

It must be nice to be a legendary director like Ridley Scott. Even if your latest film receives savage reviews and dismal box office numbers (The Counselor), you still have a number of projects in the works that will keep you employed for a good five years down the road. One of those projects is a sequel to Prometheus, which received a chilly response from moviegoers when it was released back in 2012.

Just a couple of days ago we heard that the script for the sequel was currently being written. Well, it seems as if they were just putting on the finishing touches as the director has revealed to Empire Magazine that the screenplay for Prometheus 2 is now complete.

“Prometheus 2 is written. I have already got the next two films ready to go. That will be 2014, 2015,” said the director.

His 2014 movie is Exodus, the biblical epic starring Christian Bale as Moses that is currently in production and scheduled to hit theatres on December 12, 2014. The identity of his 2015 film is more cryptic: it could be Prometheus 2 or The Forever War, Scott’s long-in-development sci-fi project based on Joe Haldeman’s bestseller. “We’ve finally got a very good draft of [The Forever War] for Fox,” Scott told Empire.

However, could the 2015 release also be the long-gestating update to Blade Runner? Since that project does not even have a finished script yet, it is highly unlikely that it would take precedence over Scott’s other sci-fi films, but who knows?

Audiences that derided Prometheus for its plot holes, lack of closure and for the questionable decisions made by the characters are probably relieved to hear that Damon Lindelof is not back as the film’s scribe. Instead, the screenwriter is Jack Paglen, whole sole writing credit is for Transcendence, a science-fiction drama with Wally Pfister directing and Christopher Nolan producing (expected in theatres April 18th, 2014).

Considering the mixed reception that Prometheus received, it is going to take a remarkable script to get naysayers back in the seats. Let’s hope that Paglen can get it right.

Tell us, were you a fan of the first Prometheus? If not, would you give Prometheus 2 a shot? Let us know.
