These apps in particular will be launched alongside Microsoft’s own, first-party programs, which include Xbox Video, Xbox Music, Xbox Fitness, Upload services, Internet Explorer, Skype and SkyDrive. What’s interesting, however, is that a dedicated YouTube app is missing from both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 lineup. While the ubiquitous streaming service can be accessed through the web browser, it’s odd that it is omitted from each platform. Having said that, it’s possible that YouTube is working with Microsoft and Sony internally to develop a some form of alternative platform.

In tandem with the announcement, Microsoft has confirmed that the third-party applications will take full advantage of the console’s Kinect-powered voice and gesture commands; which will assist in navigating around the populated home screen. Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that an Xbox Live Gold membership is required to access the aforementioned applications.

The Xbox One launch is now a mere two weeks away, with Microsoft’s new console set for release on November 22nd. Until then, be sure to leave us your thoughts about the entertainment lineup below.
