Could The Walking Dead Spinoff Be A Prequel?

Just a couple of months ago, we got the interesting news that AMC was developing a spinoff series for their hit show The Walking Dead, one that would "create a new corner" of the show's universe. This immediately had everyone wondering what else a new show could possibly cover. Another group of survivors, or a military perspective perhaps? Well, after all the guessing, we might finally have the answer.

Just a couple of months ago, we got the interesting news that AMC was developing a spinoff series for their hit show The Walking Dead, one that would “create a new corner” of the show’s universe. This immediately had everyone wondering what else a new show could possibly cover. Another group of survivors, or a military perspective perhaps? Well, after all the guessing, we might finally have the answer.

Today, it’s being reported by Comic Book Movie and TV Line that the series we’ll be getting just might be a prequel.

There’s increasing buzz that the offshoot will be a prequel of sorts, one that would chronicle the early days of the epidemic and the effort to contain it.

It’s not a terrible idea, though they’re kind of giving themselves a limited timeframe to work with given that the epidemic spread pretty quickly once it got out, so perhaps we’d be getting more of a miniseries rather than a full series.

We already know that the show will feature new characters and storylines, and that it won’t be set in Georgia, which leaves things wide open as to who it will follow specifically and where it will take place. AMC is aiming for a 2015 air date, leaving us lots more time for further speculation.

In the meantime, we still have the main show with which to feed our zombie needs. Initially, I was flat-out reluctant to even start watching season four given how much of a bore season three had been, but they’ve been trying their best to keep things interesting with the disease breaking out among the survivors. Plus, the ending of the most recent episode shows that some old trouble will soon be rekindled. Hopefully some really engaging episodes are right around the corner.

What do you think of this prequel idea for The Walking Dead? Could such a concept work? Let us know what you think in the comments!
