We won’t be seeing Jurassic World, the fourth installment in Universal’s landmark Jurassic Park franchise, until 2015, but new information about the sequel is already emerging with impressive frequency. Internet buzz has primarily focused on which actors might travel to the titular theme park, with Chris Pratt, Jason Schwartzman and Idris Elba all popping up as rumored cast members in the past month.

Last week, director Colin Trevorrow dropped a different nugget of information about the upcoming sci-fi adventure, regarding the film’s relation to the original trilogy. Replying to a fan’s tweet, Trevorrow had this to say:

So, it looks like rumors about the film being a straight reboot were unsubstantiated, though Jurassic World will certainly work to revitalize the series with a fresh cast and updated special effects. 22 years is a long time-jump (as well as the amount of years between Jurassic World and the original film), so I wouldn’t be surprised if Trevorrow and co-writer Derek Connolly abstained from including original cast members, even in cameo roles.

So far, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Johnson, Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson are confirmed to star. In addition to Pratt, Schwartzman and Elba, David Oyelowo, Irrfan Khan and Josh Brolin have all also been rumored to take on roles in recent weeks, though Brolin is almost certainly out now that Pratt is circling the role he was interested in.

Trevorrow’s use of the words ‘terror’ and ‘horrific’ to describe Jurassic World is very interesting. The original films were much more sci-fi-oriented than scary, but perhaps the director will be taking a darker, grittier approach to the story of dinos run amok in a modern-day amusement park.

The plot details of Jurassic World are still unknown, but one can speculate from the film’s title that the dinosaurs may travel a little further than Isla Nublar.

Are you excited to revisit this sci-fi classic 22 years later? Who would you cast in the lead role? Sound off in the comments section!

Jurassic World will stomp into theaters on June 12th, 2015.
