According to MCVUK, an early InfoScout report has pegged Microsoft as the hardware sales winner on Black Friday at Target and Walmart. While specific hardware numbers have yet to be released, it is being reported that the Xbox One and Xbox 360 accounted for more than 60% of hardware sales between the two stores.
Following Microsoft is Sony, whose PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 accounted for an additional 30% of hardware sales. Bringing up the rear is Nintendo, with the Wii U and Wii combining for only around 6% of total sales. Although, to be fair to Nintendo, numbers for the 3DS have yet to be released.
Though Microsoft certainly had an impressive weekend, there were some outside factors that may have contributed to the company’s high sales. The InfoScout report mentioned that the scarcity of the PlayStation 4 certainly played a major role, as well as the fact that Walmart was offering a $99 deal for the Xbox 360.
InfoScout also provided an early look at which titles were most popular over the Thanksgiving weekend. The top selling title is certainly not a surprise, as Call of Duty: Ghosts looks to stake its claim as biggest game of the Holiday season. The rest of the top 20 is filled with your usual suspects like Grand Theft Auto V and Madden NFL 25, although I do find it humorous that both Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare also placed. The full top 20 list can be seen below:
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Disney Infinity
- Skylanders Swap Force
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Madden NFL 25
