After months of constant promotional images, teaser clips, and hype for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the big day is finally here. Okay, maybe not THE big day. That’s May 2nd, 2014, when your friendly neighborhood web-slinger heads back to the big screen. But today we’ve got the next best thing with the first official trailer for Marc Webb’s villain extravaganza of a Spidey-sequel.

To say the least, this footage is an absolutely awesome first look at the film. While it isn’t quite as long as the Comic-Con exclusive trailer from last summer, most people were only able to see that via the leaked version online, which obviously involved a quality hit from what those in San Diego saw. Some of you may have caught the low-res Russian version when it leaked earlier in the week for a few brief hours, but unless you happen to be Russian, that probably wasn’t quite as good as the official version. This trailer, in proper quality and English, gives you the full effect, and boy what an effect it is.

Marc Webb has shown he has an incredible grasp on the Spider-Man universe. His first film brought a character to the big screen that was closer to the best versions of the comics than ever before. This trailer shows that he’s not letting that tone slide. Rather, he’s upping the stakes and the action, which sounds like the ultimate recipe for success. A major reason why the stakes should be so much higher this time around is the fact that Spidey is battling enough villains to fill a trilogy. With that in mind, you can be sure that there’s going to be a ton of awesome action that couldn’t be teased with a dozen previews, let alone just this one.

I’m also excited to say that we get a pretty good look at Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn here and it seems like this is another solid casting choice by Webb. I don’t think there was much doubt about DeHaan’s acting abilities, but it’s still nice to finally see him in character. There isn’t as much of footage Jamie Foxx’s Electro as some might have hoped for, but we’ve seen a fair bit of promotion involving the shocking blue villain already, so I’m happy that the majority of this trailer is focused on other characters.

But enough of me telling you about the trailer. The video is below, so check it out and then swing on down to the comments section to share your thoughts on The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
