Today we get our first look at Denzel Washington in director Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming film, The Equalizer. Originally set to be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the upcoming crime thriller, which is based on the 80s TV show of the same name, reunites Washington with his Training Day director in a film that is already sounding very promising.

The always reliable actor, who is currently coming off a very, very hot streak, will step into the role of Robert McCall, “a retired covert operative who, seeking redemption for his dark deeds, quits a CIA-like agency and puts an advertisement in the paper that reads simply: Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer.”

Seeing as The Equalizer wrapped production this past summer, the image released today is likely just the first piece of an upcoming marketing campaign. It doesn’t give us much to go on, but then again, it’s only a first look, so that’s to be expected. We see Washington sitting comfortably in a chair, gun in hand, presumably waiting for someone.

Regardless of the fact that this is the first we’re seeing of the film, my excitement for The Equalizer is already sky high. Fuqua and Washington proved to be an extremely successful duo with Training Day and seeing as this film is familiar territory (gritty crime story) for them, it should no doubt prove to be another winner.

Co-starring with Washington is an impressive handful of actors that include Chloë Grace Moretz, Melissa Leo, Haley Bennett, Marton Csokas, Johnny Messner, Vladimir Kulich, and Robert Wahlberg. Not bad, eh?

The Equalizer hits theatres on September 26th, 2014. Check out the first image above and then head down to the comments section to share your thoughts.
