Instead of taking the action-packed gameplay route with their newest trailer for The Division, Massive Games and Ubisoft decided to show off the game’s tech. In doing so, the two companies wowed many as what was shown was beyond impressive.

Thanks to the Snowdrop Engine, The Division is able to present a realistic-looking world that is said to react according to real-world physics and lighting cycles. Most of those things are accomplished through the use of dynamic weather, lighting and day/night cycles, which are able to simulate time-based sunlight and both the accumulation and melting properties of snow. The snow sets in, remains for a while and then fades away from the decayed city’s streets, sidewalks, parked vehicles and other miscellaneous materials, just as it would in a real location.

On top of the noted Mother Nature/Earth-based effects, the aforementioned trailer also showcased how items take, and react to, damage. The example that was utilized was a cop car, which showed realistic alterations based on where it was shot, including a blown out mirror. Needless to say, it’s something that you’ll want to see for yourself.

The Division is targeting a late 2014 release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
