After switching distributors (from Miramx to Focus Features), The Debt is finally going to hit theatres after much delay. To prepare for the release, Focus Features have released a new theatrical trailer. With a solid cast that boasts names like Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington and Tom Wilkinson, The Debt looks to offer a compelling and thrilling story. Director James Madden gets behind the camera to tell this espionage thriller, in which:
“shocking news reaches retired Mossad secret agents Rachel (Academy Award winner Helen Mirren) and Stefan (two-time Academy Award nominee Tom Wilkinson) about their former colleague David (Ciarán Hinds). Back in 1966, the trio (portrayed, respectively, by Jessica Chastain, Marton Csokas, and Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) tracked down Nazi war criminal Vogel (Jesper Christensen) in East Berlin. At great risk, and at considerable personal cost, the team’s mission was accomplished – or was it? The suspense builds in and across two different time periods, with startling action and surprising revelations.”
The film was shown at the TIFF back in September and earned fairly positive reviews. Judging by the trailer, it looks pretty solid. Wilkinson and Mirren rarely disappoint and you can expect Jessica Chastain to be on everyone’s minds come August, partly due to Terrence Malick‘s The Tree Of Life. I’m also remaining optimistic due to the fact that Madden is behind the camera. He gave us the overrated yet still very good Shakespeare In Love. He also did Proof, which I really enjoyed. Anyways, check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
The Debt hits theaters August 31st, 2011.
