Clint Eastwood’s adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Jersey Boys is heading to the big screen later this year, and it’s already got quite a few Broadway musical fans very excited. To further fuel that excitement, Warner Bros. has now released the first official image from the film, showing the four main characters on stage.

It’s no surprise that Jersey Boys is being adapted for the silver screen. After all, when a production is successful on stage, it seems more than likely that it’s going to be a hit in movie theatres as well. Musical films almost always win over critics and audiences and this one has the sort of story behind it that makes it primed for a feature film.

For those who aren’t familiar with Jersey Boys, it focuses on Frank Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi, four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together and formed the iconic rock group The Four Seasons.

If you recall, the film was originally supposed to be directed by Jon Favreau, but when he dropped out Eastwood stepped in. While Clint isn’t the first director that I’d think of to take on something like this, I’m excited to see what he can do with the story. I especially like his decision to go with lesser-known Broadway actors. John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen and Michael Lomenda have all previously appeared in the stage version of the musical, which I believe bodes well for this adaptation. Boardwalk Empire‘s Vincent Piazza is the newcomer of the bunch, but he should have no trouble working alongside the other three.

As for the image, it doesn’t really reveal anything surprising. In fact, it actually looks more like a Broadway set than anything else, but it’s still nice to finally have an official look at the film.

With only six months until it hits theaters, it’s likely that a fair bit of promotion, including the first trailer, should be headed our way soon.

Jersey Boys hits theaters on June 20th, 2014.
