Things have been getting increasingly busy with character announcements for Nintendo’s upcoming fourth Super Smash Bros. game, currently scheduled for release sometime this year on both the Wii U and 3DS. Last month brought confirmation of both returning fighter Princess Zelda and newcomers Rosalina & Luma. Now, we can add another familiar face to the roster, as King Dedede, a longtime villain in the Kirby series, has been announced to be making his return in both versions of the game.

The pompous penguin, who originally made his series debut in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, will continue to wield his trademark mallet, and if the promotional screenshots showcasing the character below are any indication, he will also be providing some hilarious facial expressions. Game director Masahiro Sakurai also confirmed on the game’s official Miiverse account that Dedede’s confirmation is meant to coincide with the Japanese launch of Kirby Triple Deluxe for the 3DS.

Dedede was one of my favorite newcomers back when Brawl came out, and I’m happy to see him return. With luck, we’ll also see fellow Kirby character Meta Knight confirmed at some point for the new game alongside other new and returning fighters. Until then, let us know your thought’s on Dedede’s inclusion in the comments section below.
