Paul Greengrass Will Helm The Director For His Next Project

After delivering one of the best films of 2013 with Captain Phillips, all eyes are on director Paul Greengrass to see what he'll do next. Well, it looks like he'll be working with Sony again as the two will be bringing David Ignatius' spy novel, The Director, to the silver screen. If Ignatius' name sounds familiar, it's because he also wrote Body of Lies, which was adapted into a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe.

After delivering one of the best films of 2013 with Captain Phillips, all eyes are on director Paul Greengrass to see what he’ll do next. Well, it looks like he’ll be working with Sony again as the two will be bringing David Ignatius’ spy novel, The Director, to the silver screen. If Ignatius’ name sounds familiar, it’s because he also wrote Body of Lies, which was adapted into a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe.

Back to The Director though, Greengrass’ isn’t officially confirmed just yet but apparently he hopes to adapt and direct the project. For those who haven’t picked up the book, which is likely every single one of you reading this article since it doesn’t hit store shelves until this Spring, you can check out the official plot synopsis below:

Graham Weber has been director of the CIA for less than a week when a Swiss kid in a dirty T-shirt walks into the American consulate in Hamburg and says the agency has been hacked, and he has a list of agents’ names to prove it. This is the moment a CIA director most dreads. Weber isn’t sure where to turn until he meets a charismatic (and unstable) young man named James Morris who runs the Internet Operations Center. He’s the CIA’s in-house geek. Weber launches Morris on a mole hunt unlike anything in spy fiction—one that takes the reader into the hacker underground of Europe and America and ends up in a landscape of paranoia and betrayal. Like the new world of cyber-espionage from which it’s drawn, The Director is a maze of deception and double-dealing— about a world where everything is written in zeroes and ones and nothing can be trusted.

Given that Greengrass has made a name for himself directing spy thrillers like The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, he should be a perfect fit for this one. It sounds pretty interesting, too, as it has that cyber/tech-y twist to it, which could make for something quite refreshing. Maybe he’ll even get Matt Damon to star, who knows?

As of now, I’m willing to watch absolutely anything Greengrass puts his name to. I’ve always been a fan of his but I was really, truly blown away by Captain Phillips and cannot wait to see what he does next.

Tell us, does The Director sound appealing to you? Are you excited to see Greengrass directing it? Let us know in the comments section below.
