This evening, the Broadcast Film Critics Association presented their 2013 awards (the “Critics’ Choice“) for excellence in film with hardly a surprise to be found.
For the most part, the awards went exactly as they were expected to go, with Alfonso Cuaron’s masterpiece Gravity claiming the most wins with seven, including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Sci-Fi/Horror Film. In second place was American Hustle with four wins of its own, including Best Comedy and Best Ensemble.
As expected, Best Picture was awarded to 12 Years a Slave, which also took Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay. The only somewhat surprising occurrence was that it did not receive Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor’s outstanding performance. Instead, the award went to Matthew McConaughey for his incredible turn in Dallas Buyers Club, the same surprise we saw at the Golden Globes earlier this week. Will we see this same situation play out a third time this weekend with the Screen Actors Guild awards? It’s certainly a possibility.
I, for one, am very excited to see how the major guild awards play out this weekend. Saturday evening will see SAG present their honors, while the Producers Guild of America announces their results on Sunday, so be sure to check back here for a complete list of winners as they’re announced on those respective nights.
See below for a complete list of winners of the Critics’ Choice awards and, as always, feel free to let us know how you think the ceremony went in the comments section.
