Elizabeth Banks Takes An Epic Walk Of Shame In New Trailer

Every adventurous college student is familiar with the walk of shame, to the point where stumbling back to one's dorm in disheveled clothing after a night on the town is considered a rite of passage by many. However, most one night stands don't result in as much trouble as Elizabeth Banks's does, in the appropriately titled Walk of Shame. Every adventurous college student is familiar with the walk of shame, to the point where stumbling back to one’s dorm in disheveled clothing after a night on the town is considered a rite of passage by many. However, most one night stands don’t result in as much trouble as Elizabeth Banks’s does, in the appropriately titled Walk of Shame.

The first trailer for the film, which you can check out below, was released today and it gives us a peek at her truly disastrous morning after:

Banks plays aspiring reporter Meghan Miles (Banks), who encounters many obstacles as she attempts to make the trek from the home of a random hook-up (James Marsden) through downtown L.A. to get to the most important job interview of her career.

It’s nice to see Banks taking on a leading role for the first time in what feels like a long while. In recent years, the talented actress has been relegated to supporting roles in films like The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect and (the horror) Movie 43, but her roles in The 40-Year Old Virgin and Zack and Miri Make A Porno have proven that she has charisma and comic ability to spare.

Unfortunately, Banks’ appeal alone isn’t enough to convince me that Walk of Shame will be a comedy worth seeing. The premise is pretty by-the-numbers, and I’m not convinced that simply putting Banks in a yellow cocktail dress is enough to sustain a feature-length film. The biggest catch? Walk of Shame was written and directed by Steven Brill, the same guy who brought us two terrible Adam Sandler movies (Little Nicky and Mr. Deeds) and the painfully unfunny Without A Paddle.

With that in mind, Brill has an uncommonly terrific cast lined up for Walk of Shame, so he would have to work pretty hard to completely squander it. In addition to Banks and Marsden, the film features performances from Gillian Jacobs, Tig Notaro, Sarah Wright, Ethan Suplee, P.J. Byrne, Richard Cabral, Oliver Hudson and Willie Garson.

The film, once scheduled to land last fall, is now slated to hit theaters in April, so we don’t have too long to wait to find out whether Walk of Shame will sink or swim. What do you think? Does the trailer suggest a comedy hit or a star-studded dud? Check out the film’s poster below, then let us know in the comments.

Walk of Shame opens April 25th.
