Anthony And Joe Russo Will Direct Captain America 3

We are still more than two months away from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but as Marvel fans make their way through a winter filled with a lot of DC news, there are finally some more updates on this current phase of the studio's cinematic universe. Today we're hearing that Anthony and Joe Russo, who are already at the helm of The Winter Soldier, will be back to direct a third solo installment with superhero Steve Rogers (a.k.a. Captain America).

We are still more than two months away from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but as Marvel fans make their way through a winter filled with a lot of DC news, there are finally some more updates on this current phase of the studio’s cinematic universe. Today we’re hearing that Anthony and Joe Russo, who are already at the helm of The Winter Soldier, will be back to direct a third solo installment with superhero Steve Rogers (a.k.a. Captain America).

Although Marvel has not yet been greenlit Captain America 3, positive test screening results for the second film have given the studio enough confidence to sign the Russo brothers for another directing gig. Currently, there is no screenwriter attached to the film nor is there a release date, but Chris Evans is expected to return in the title role with Kevin Feige producing.

According to Variety, negotiations between the Russos and the studio won’t happen until after The Winter Soldier comes out on April 4. However, with Marvel already fast-tracking a third entry with the same creative minds that are behind second film, fans should be optimistic about The Winter Soldier‘s quality.

The only unfortunate news to come out of all this is that those hoping that the Russos would return to television comedy, where they have developed a stellar resume of writing, directing and producing jobs, will likely have to wait.

Captain America 3 has no assigned release date just yet, although the studio recently picked up slots for the first weekend in May in 2016 and 2017, as well as an early July berth in 2016. So I’d expect the film to land on one of those dates.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
