If rumours are to be believed, then Halo 5 will not be the series’ first FPS title to hit Xbox One.

According to a forum post on NeoGaf, Microsoft is readying Halo 2 Anniversary for release. It’s said that the Xbox One revamp will hit the console on November 11, thanks to work from Certain Affinity and Sabre Interactive. If you played through last generation’s Halo: Combat Evolved – Anniversary, then you’ll probably recognize those studios’ names as they worked on that title as well.

If what is posted on said forum ends up being true, then Halo 2 Anniversary will be released in two different versions:

Collector’s Edition: This includes the game, entrance to the Halo 5 beta and a live-action series that isn’t Blomkamp’s.

The War Collection: It will come with the content that its peer offers, plus ports of Halo 3 and Halo 4, offering hardcore fans of the series a wealth of sci-fi shooting. The listed ports of the latter two titles will also be released separately in 2014, according to the source.

As of this writing, Microsoft has not confirmed the existence of this project. However, there have been hints pertaining to it, such as one instance where Phil Spencer (the head honcho at Microsoft Studios) had this to say to IGN:

“I’ll be open,” Spencer said. “We have discussions about it. It’s more about the right time and making sure that we really would do the right thing for the franchise.

By now, you’re probably giddy if you’re an Xbox One-owning Halo fan, or happen to be waiting for the series’ FPS gameplay to set up residence on the console before buying one. However, keep in mind that this is merely a rumour, which has not yet been proven true. We’ll be sure to keep you updated, though.

In the meantime, let us know what you think of this news. Would you be interested in buying Halo 2 Anniversary? If so, would you spring for the Collector’s Edition or the War Collection?
