Liam Neeson Will Reteam With Martin Scorsese For Silence

The cast for Martin Scorsese's next project, Silence, continues to get better with every new addition. So far, the director has brought Andrew Garfield, Ken Watanabe and Adam Driver on board. Now, according to Deadline, he's looking to add Liam Neeson into the mix. It won't be the first time that the two are working together either, as the actor had a small but pivotal role in the director's Gangs of New York.

The cast for Martin Scorsese’s next project, Silence, continues to get better with every new addition. So far, the director has brought Andrew Garfield, Ken Watanabe and Adam Driver on board. Now, according to Deadline, he’s looking to add Liam Neeson into the mix. It won’t be the first time that the two are working together either, as the actor had a small but pivotal role in the director’s Gangs of New York.

Unfortunately, we have no details on who Neeson is set to play but we do know that the film will chronicle “Jesuit priests spreading Christianity in Japan.” It’s not much to go on, but at least it gives us a general idea of what type of movie we’re in for and by the sounds of it, it will be very different than the director’s last effort (The Wolf of Wall Street).

This bit of casting news makes me very happy, for a couple reasons. For one, Silence is turning into a very promising film and after hitting an absolute home run with The Wolf of Wall Street, I think moviegoers everywhere are extremely eager to see what Scorsese does next.

The other reason why this excites me though is because it’s nice to see Neeson attaching his talents to a project that’s about more than just the paycheque. For too long now he’s been doing his action hero bit and while he is good at it, it’s starting to wear thin. It will be a welcome change to see him star in something a bit more dramatic where he can really flex his acting chops. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him in a dramatic role or in a film that doesn’t require him to grunt, yell and growl through every line.

Tell us, are you happy to see Liam Neeson and Martin Scorsese reteaming for Silence?
