Anson Mount And Gillian Jacobs Will Have Visions In Blumhouse Thriller

One of the less well-known projects on horror super-producer Jason Blum's docket is Visions, a low-budget horror thriller about expectant mother Julia (Isla Fisher), who becomes terrorized by horrific visions of a creepy hooded figure only she can see. Though that set-up probably doesn't seem wholly unfamiliar to horror fans (see also: The Sixth Sense, The Eye, Final Destination, V/H/S/2), two recent casting reveals for Visions suddenly have me a lot more interested in the film. Anson Mount (AMC's Hell on Wheels) and Gillian Jacobs (NBC's Community) will both test out their horror chops with supporting roles.

One of the less well-known projects on horror super-producer Jason Blum’s docket is Visions, a low-budget horror thriller about expectant mother Julia (Isla Fisher), who becomes terrorized by horrific visions of a creepy hooded figure only she can see. Though that set-up probably doesn’t seem wholly unfamiliar to horror fans (see also: The Sixth Sense, The Eye, Final Destination, V/H/S/2), two recent casting reveals for Visions suddenly have me a lot more interested in the film. Anson Mount (AMC’s Hell on Wheels) and Gillian Jacobs (NBC’s Community) will both test out their horror chops with supporting roles.

Mount will portray Julia’s husband, who becomes increasingly worried about her mental state as the visions increase once the pair moves to the countryside. Meanwhile, Jacobs will take on the role of a woman who becomes fast friends with Julia. Both actors have a small amount of experience in the horror genre – Mount played Garth in the Amber Heard-starring All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, while Jacobs’s last big-screen project was the horror-comedy Bad Milo!

Furthermore, Jim Parsons will have a role in the film, and Ellen Barkin was also in discussions to join the cast at one point, though her involvement has not yet been confirmed.

Visions will be directed by Saw 3D helmer Kevin Greutert, who also recently directed the Blum-produced horror-thriller Jessabelle. Lucas Sussman (Below) penned the script for the film, which will be distributed by Universal Pictures.

Jason Blum has been an extremely busy man ever since the runaway success of Paranormal Activity back in 2009. Since then, he has has found remarkable success producing low-budget horror films under his Blumhouse Productions banner, like Insidious: Chapter 2, Sinister and The Purge. And with sequels to all of those films, as well as new horror entries like Visions, Area 51, Ouija, Mercy and Not Safe For Work, on the way, Blum’s schedule doesn’t look like it will be cooling down anytime soon. With the producer’s packed 2014, there’s no telling when Visions will make its way to theaters, but it’s a relatively low-budgeted project, and filming isn’t expected to take more than a few weeks.

Based on this cast and that plot description, will you see Visions? Let us know in the comments section.
