It’s only February, but Nintendo is already having a rough year. Wii Us aren’t selling, the darn thing barely has any games worth playing on it, and quite frankly, the hits just keep on coming. Earlier this week, a representative of Warner Brothers had this to say regarding the story based DLC for Batman: Arkham Origins.
“Based on fan demand, [we have] made the decision to remove its offering of the upcoming all-new story campaign for the Wii U.”
It’s also worth mentioning that if you did buy the Season Pass for Batman: Arkham Origins, you will be refunded. While this news is unfortunate, it isn’t necessarily a total loss. After all, the game was nowhere near past entries in the franchise as far as quality goes and realistically, there probably aren’t many gamers that want the DLC anyways, having likely shelved the game for eternity or sold it.
That being said, the point here isn’t just that a mediocre game was stripped of its story based DLC on one console, but that Wii U sales for 3rd party games are so weak that the developers can’t justify creating additional content moving forward. Nintendo seriously needs to find a way to give gamers an incentive to buy games on their platform, because as harsh as it sounds, there’s no real reason not to just stick with Sony or Microsoft at this point.
