Square Enix has officially revealed that Drakengard 3 will be coming to North America on May 20th, following its December 2013 release in Japan.

Although most titles released these days include pre-order bonuses, Square Enix is doing things a little differently with Drakengard 3, as select bonuses will only be available for a limited time. Those that order the title before March 3 will receive the Japanese voiceover DLC, as well as two unannounced bonuses. If you pre-order the title between March 4 and April 8, you will only receive the two unannounced features. Finally, if you pre-order the title from April 9 to launch, you only qualify for the final unannounced item.

In addition to those reveals, Square Enix has also announced that Drakengard 3 will come in both standard and collector’s edition flavors. The collector’s edition, which will cost $79.99 and be limited to 5,000 copies, includes the following items:

  • All three pre-order bonuses
  • The Complete Novella
  • Official Soundtrack CD Sampler
  • Prequel Stage DLC (Play as Zero’s sister, One)
  • Caim Costume DLC (Costume of the protagonist from Drakengard)
  • Giant Baby Hat DLC (For your in-game dragon)
  • Collectible Poster

The Drakengard franchise has not seen a release since the second instalment came out way back in February 2006, unless you count the spin-off NIER, which was released in April 2010. It’s definitely a cult franchise, so it is a little surprising that Square Enix would choose to bring the title to North America, but I’m sure fans of the series are thrilled to hear the good news.

Drakengard 3 will be coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3 and can be ordered through the official Square Enix website or as a digital download from the PlayStation Store. Are you interested in jumping back into the long-stagnant series? Let us know in the comments section below.
