The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 Will Digitally Recreate Philip Seymour Hoffman

After the tragic death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, many were left wondering what would happen with the scenes that the actor still had to film for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. We soon learnt that he had completed all of his work on the first part but unfortunately, he still had one major scene left to shoot for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.

After the tragic death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, many were left wondering what would happen with the scenes that the actor still had to film for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. We soon learnt that he had completed all of his work on the first part but unfortunately, he still had one major scene left to shoot for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

According to The New York Post, the filmmakers have now made a decision on how to proceed and they have decided to digitally recreate Hoffman for his last scene. It’s an expensive option, for sure, but I think it’s the right thing to do and with the amount of money these films make, it shouldn’t put too big of a dent into the budget. It will also allow them to continue on with production and not face any major delays, as this type of work will all be done in post.

“These days the technology of using someone’s likeness is a whole lot easier to do,” veteran special effects supervisor Rob told The Hollywood Reporter. “I won’t say you could generate a Philip Seymour Hoffman with all the acting ability, but you could certainly replicate him for a shot or two.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 opens on November 20th, 2015 and unfortunately, it will likely be the last time we ever see Philip Seymour Hoffman on the big screen.
