Just a day after the app was pulled from online stores by developer Don Nguyen, phones installed with Flappy Bird have been listed on eBay with some rather questionable prices.
Taking just a quick glance over some of the auctions listed for devices featuring the smash app reveals numerous iPhones selling for anywhere between $300 and $3,000, not to mention a few iPads sporting the title as well. The listings cover both Apple and Android devices but as of this time, none of these auctions have been officially verified by eBay.
If you are not interested in dropping hundreds of dollars on Flappy Bird, several users are also selling the actual game file, which had been ripped from the mobile stores that carried it. The file can be had for less than $10 but it will require some shady maneuvering on the winners’ part in order to properly use it.
Although Flappy Bird had been available since September 2013, the app experienced a surge in popularity within the last week. Unfortunately, the success of the title was too much for Don Nguyen to deal with, as he Tweeted out a message on Saturday that read “I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird‘ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird‘ down. I cannot take this anymore.” On Sunday, he followed through with that threat and pulled the title from Google Play and the App Store.
Honestly, I’m still shocked at how much of an issue this has become and I think it’s absolutely ridiculous. For one, the game isn’t that good and even if it was, Nguyen should be able to have what he wants. People should stop pestering him about his app and just forget that it ever even existed.
