UK Charts: FIFA 14 Reclaims Pole Position; Fable Anniversary Debuts At 3rd

It’s business as usual this week in the UK all-formats charts as EA’s soccer simulator FIFA 14 reclaimed the number one spot from Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, which was last week’s chart-topper. Elsewhere in the standings, Microsoft’s revamped Fable Anniversary entered at number three, sandwiched between Call of Duty: Ghosts and Lara Croft’s aforementioned next-gen rerelease.

For reference, here’s this week’s top ten in full courtesy of GfK:

1) FIFA 14
2) Call of Duty: Ghosts
3) Fable Anniversary
4) Tomb Raider Definitive Edition
5) Lego Marvel Super Heroes
6) Grand Theft Auto V
7) Battlefield 4
8) Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
9) Killzone: Shadow Fall
10) Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Not only does this mark FIFA 14’s tenth appearance at number one, it also means that last year’s iteration in EA’s footballing mega-franchise is only the third series entry to achieve such a feat. In terms of the remaining positions, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and Grand Theft Auto V rounded out the middle of the table — with the latter witnessing a 54% boon in sales thanks to a promotion.

Ultimately, though, it was a rather sluggish week in terms of sales. And Fable Anniversary’s performance typifies this annual February lull, considering that it debuted in third place despite being available on just one platform. The high-definition remake, which won’t appear on Xbox One despite rumours to the contrary, also included The Lost Chapters DLC.

With Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and The LEGO Movie Videogame due for launch next week, things are set to pick up in terms of releases. Given the trailblazing success of its filmic forbearer, it’ll be interesting to see whether The LEGO Movie Videogame can pip Lightning and Co., and indeed FIFA 14, to the summit. I guess then everything really would be “awesome.”
