Blizzard has offered fans a glimpse at the new social features that are set to arrive prior to Diablo III: Reaper of Souls via an upcoming patch.

Players will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of Clans and Communities, which will offer practical tools for interacting with one’s fellow demon slayers. This will be the easiest way to find the perfect partner for farming your favorite run or simply killing time slaughtering demons. Clans and Communities are still in development, but they are already promising to significantly enhance the core Diablo III experience.

Clans are designed with the simple purpose of linking players with similar interests and granting an easier way of keeping in touch with the people you play with most. A clan cannot exceed 120 players though and you can set your clan so that not everyone can join, only those who are accepted. Furthermore, clans can send invites for players to join and even though anyone can create one, you can only be a member of one clan at a time.

Communities are designed to bring players together on a larger scale. This can range from enjoying the same films to only eating cookie dough Oreos, the choice is really yours. This feature is all about embracing the benefits of social media by allowing you to connect with other people on a casual level, while looting to your heart’s content. Additionally, they can be created as either public or private, and while you can only join a single clan, it is possible to be a member of multiple communities.

These new features are currently available on the Public Beta Test Realm and in the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls beta, if you’re lucky enough to get access. Expect patch 2.0.1 to arrive sometime before Reaper of Souls launches on March 25th.
