The character confirmations for Super Smash Bros. keep rolling in and the latest fighter who will be making a return is Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong’s longtime monkey sidekick. The announcement coincides with today’s North American and European launch of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for the Wii U, which Diddy plays a prominent role in.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Diddy made his debut back in the original Super Nintendo Donkey Kong Country title in 1994 as the second playable character alongside the titular ape, followed by graduating to lead protagonist status in the 1995 sequel Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest. He also got his own kart racer in the 1997 Nintendo 64 game Diddy Kong Racing, and was once again playable in Donkey Kong 64 and Donkey Kong Country Returns, among other titles. Diddy’s not completely new to the Smash Bros. scene either, as he made his series debut in the Wii title Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

If the screenshots released are any indication, Diddy looks to be as fast and nimble as before, and will still utilize such moves as his peanut gun, barrel jetpack and the ability to drop banana peels. It’s also worth noting that Diddy’s “flexibility” has been increased, with his stretchier arms being proof.
