Lars von Trier. Nymphomaniac. No matter what your taste in movies is, you’ve undoubtedly heard that name, and that title, several times in the past couple of months. The provocative Danish director’s latest film is finally making its way to North America so that those of us who live on this side of the pond can see what all the fuss is about.
Billed as an erotic drama but containing enough sex and nudity to qualify as a softcore porno, the film follows the titular Nymphomaniac Joe, who recounts her sexual exploits to a man who saves her after a brutal beating. Blunt, daring and darkly comic, the movie might not be for everyone, but if you’re a fan of von Trier’s work, or think you can stomach the material, then it’s well worth a watch.
Recently, Magnolia Pictures held a press day for Nymphomaniac in New York City and in attendance were Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Stacy Martin and Christian Slater. Sitting down for an exclusive video interview with the four cast members, we spoke about what it was like working with Lars, what attracted them to the role, what they thought of the film when they saw it for the first time and much more.
