Watch The Final Trailer For The Amazing Spider-Man 2

If you were unaware of the plot, characters, and most fight sequences from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it is not the fault of Sony's marketing department. The deluge of trailers and teasers began months ago and have carried on apace until now, a mere six weeks before the premiere of the film. With the final trailer coming to the Web today, we can now rest easy that we've seen pretty much all that Sony will let us see (and they have let us see a lot).

If you were unaware of the plot, characters, and most fight sequences from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it is not the fault of Sony’s marketing department. The deluge of trailers and teasers began months ago and have carried on apace until now, a mere six weeks before the premiere of the film. With the final trailer coming to the Web today, we can now rest easy that we’ve seen pretty much all that Sony will let us see (and they have let us see a lot).

This latest trailer showcases the three main villains – Electro (Jamie Foxx), the Rhino (Paul Giamatti), and the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan) – as well as the struggle for our main character to be a good nephew, boyfriend, and friendly neighborhood superhero. There are family secrets in the offing, as Aunt May (Sally Field) dispenses some of her homespun wisdom, and of course, all those niggling little problems with OsCorp and the Osborn family. I could not locate any footage in this trailer that we have not seen in some capacity before, but at least it paints a cohesive picture of what we can expect from the sequel.

Meanwhile, director Marc Webb recently revealed to Rolling Stone (via The Playlist) that the original script for The Amazing Spider-Man did not really tell the origin story that the film ultimately opted to examine.

It was different. It still had the Lizard in it, but it was a script that jumped ahead in time and relied on knowledge of the comic books that I don’t think everyone had. Tonally, it was a little more tongue-in-cheek and glib, and I didn’t feel the emotional connection. I just didn’t know how else to develop that bond than with an origin story. I feel like it pays off in this movie, because now Andrew Garfield embodies Peter Parker.

Whether or not Webb was correct in assuming that most film-goers would not be familiar with Spider-Man’s origins is up for debate, but at least this new film is moving ahead with the plot (and presumably setting things up for the multitude of sequels that Sony has planned).

You can watch the final ever trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 below, along with a thirty second TV spot that covers similar ground.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 finally swings its way into theatres on May 2.
