Jurassic World Adds X-Men’s Omar Sy

While we are all a little sad that the Jurassic World cast does not include the likes of Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, or Laura Dern this time around, I think we can at least agree that the new additions to the Jurassic Park franchise are pretty impressive. With Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas-Howard in leading roles, and Vincent D'Onofrio and B.D. Wong in secondary parts, at the very least the cast will be enjoyable to watch. Today, we can add one more name to the ever-growing roster of fine actors preparing to be chased by dinosaurs: Omar Sy.

While we are all a little sad that the Jurassic World cast does not include the likes of Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, or Laura Dern this time around, I think we can at least agree that the new additions to the Jurassic Park franchise are pretty impressive. With Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas-Howard in leading roles, and Vincent D’Onofrio and B.D. Wong in secondary parts, at the very least the cast will be enjoyable to watch. Today, we can add one more name to the ever-growing roster of fine actors preparing to be chased by dinosaurs: Omar Sy.

Sy announced his casting early this morning via Twitter, garnering a happy response (in French) from director Colin Trevorrow. While it’s not yet known what the actor’s part will entail, we can hope that he’ll be more than just a bit player. He garnered some major attention a few years back for his role in The Intouchables, made in his native France, and he’ll be making his American debut as the mutant Bishop in X-Men: Days of Future Past, in addition to wrapping a role in James Franco’s Good People. With another part in another major franchise, we can hope that this means Sy will become more recognizable to American audiences.

The most we know about the plot of Jurassic World is that it takes place 22 years after the events of the original, and features Chris Pratt as a “classic hero.” There are expectations that Vincent D’Onofrio will be the villain of the piece, and the recent addition of B.D. Wong implies that his geneticist character will play a big role. But beyond that, we have only guesses and speculation. Let’s just hope that Jurassic World improves on Jurassic Park III, which was not exactly on par with the original.

Jurassic World will premiere on June 12th, 2015.
