Michael Bay has a lot on his plate right now. Not only is he preparing his directorial effort, Transformers: Age Of Extinction, for its June 27 release date, but he’s also producing another big summer movie – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – for which we just got our first real trailer.

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath Of The Titans), plot details on the reboot are still a bit sketchy. From what we know so far though, it appears that the film will go back to the comic books as a source more than anything else, effectively re-booting the brand with its first live-action movie since 1993.

The story will follow intrepid reporter April O’Neill (Megan Fox) and her trusty cameraman Vernon Fenwick (Will Arnett), who must work with the mysterious and newly appeared Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in order to restore peace and justice to the city of New York, which is being held tightly in the grip of terror by the evil Shredder (William Fichtner) and his gang.

In the brand new trailer, we get an immediate sense of the darkness that has befallen the city, and lots of shots of Megan Fox looking at things in disbelief. This is not what we came for though. The big reveal is the Turtles and – to our distinct surprise – they look really, really cool. Great in action, great in witty banter – these guys show up and elevate what would be a fairly forgettable trailer to something that actually has me quite excited to see this upcoming reboot.

Sit back, strap in, and get ready for some Turtle Power when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is released in the US on August 8th, 2014.
