Despite Ubisoft’s highly-anticipated Watch Dogs being delayed until the end of May, a sequel is already being hinted at by the development giants. Originally scheduled for release at the end of 2013, the game was pushed back several months, leaving fans waiting with baited breath over what is being tipped as a potentially genre-defining title.
According to Lionel Raynaud, Vice President of Ubisoft, the delay of Watch Dogs has enabled the studio to fine tune and polish the game to hopefully meet – and possibly exceed – fan expectations. However, some of the ideas that were being implemented may have risked affecting the fundamentals of the game and may be put aside in anticipation of a second game in the series.
Raynaud confirmed this idea by saying, “[the] consistency that we have achieved with the characters, structure and narrative would have been difficult to maintain if we put in the other ideas that we had. So where we are now is keeping these ideas safe for the next game.”
Despite news hinting at the possibility of a Watch Dogs 2, Ubisoft are still committed to the first instalment, boasting over 100-hours of gameplay and an open-world multiplayer feature. Still, fans will no doubt be intrigued at the concept of a sequel, especially as the game is set to be one of the biggest releases of 2014 and should be an easy shoe-in for GOTY contender.
Watch Dogs is scheduled for release on May 27th on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. However, a release date for the Wii U has yet to be confirmed. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
