Though it was leaked somewhat ahead of schedule by an Italian website, 4A Games has since confirmed plans to bring Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light to the PS4 and Xbox One in the form of the Metro Redux.

Taking to the game’s official website, publisher Deep Silver issued this message to fans of the atmospheric FPS series:

“We could issue a ‘We do not comment on rumour and speculation’ statement and pretend this never happened. They’re pretty boring to read. They’re also pretty boring to write. So we’re going to comment on rumour and speculation instead. But what you saw leaked was taken from an old, internal planning presentation, containing some nuggets of truth but a lot of hypothetical ideas and place holder material.”

While this isn’t, strictly speaking, a full reveal for the title, the company assured gamers that more information regarding the upgrade will be released in the build up to E3. That said, despite Deep Silver labelling the leaked images as out-dated, the material alludes to a limited edition bundle of Metro Redux, which would seemingly include the game’s soundtrack along with art cards and day one DLC.

Having launched across last-gen consoles in 2010 and 2013, respectively, Metro: 2033 and Metro: Last Light stand as two of the genre’s most accomplished shooters in terms of storytelling. For the post-apocalyptic pairing, players assume the role of Artyom, a weathered war veteran with a peculiar link to the Dark Ones — the game’s misunderstood antagonists.

In a similar vein to other next-gen renditions such as Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and The Last of Us — which is all but confirmed by Naughty Dog — we can expect Metro Redux to add that extra sheen of visual polish to Moscow’s foreboding transit system when it launches for PS4 and Xbox One.

Without a release date to report at this time, we’ll be sure to update you on the finer details of Deep Silver’s re-release as they appear.
