Deadline is reporting that Noomi Rapace is in negotiations to star in an upcoming spy thriller titled Unlocked. Directed by Mikael Håfström, the film was written by Peter O’Brien and showed up on the 2008 Black List. It follows a female CIA interrogator, the role Rapace would play, who’s tricked “into getting a terrorist to provide key information to the wrong side. This puts her at the center of a plot to launch a biological attack in London.”

After breaking out in the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, Rapace started impressing audiences on this side of the pond with performances in films like Prometheus, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Passion. She also has several very exciting upcoming projects, like The Drop, Child 44 and of course, Prometheus 2, to look forward to.

As for Håfström, American audiences will likely know him for films such as Escape Plan1408 and The Rite. While I wouldn’t call any of those memorable, the director did helm Evil back in 2003, which I’ve heard very good things about but unfortunately, have not got around to seeing yet.

With a promising script (that has an intriguing premise) and the combined talents of Rapace and Håfström, I’d say that chances are pretty good that Unlocked will turn out to be an exciting entry into a genre that I often enjoy. Unfortunately, no release date has been set just yet but with a lead actress now in place, you can bet that this indie thriller will head into production pretty shortly.

Stay tuned as we’ll be sure to keep you posted once we hear more.
