Through its ongoing Super Smash Bros. themed Nintendo Direct livestream, Nintendo has announced that the 3DS version of the game will come out before its Wii U counterpart. On top of that, it’s been confirmed that the 3DS version will run at close to 60 frames-per-second (with stereoscopic 3D effects, of course), while the Wii U version will run at 30 frames-per-second with high-definition visuals. Both will also offer online multiplayer, with names and Global Smash Power statistics linked to players’ Nintendo Network IDs.

Although the two versions will share certain stages, all stages will not be shared across both platforms. As such, there will be exclusives. Furthermore, the 3DS version’s stages will offer two different themed musical pieces.

As mentioned above, basic release details were mentioned, but no exact details were given. All we know is that the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. will launch this summer, while the Wii U iteration will be released sometime next winter.

We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
