Though he’s currently still working on his upcoming spy caper, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., director Guy Ritchie is already looking ahead at his next project. We heard not too long ago that he had attached himself to King Arthur, which is being set up at Warner Bros. as a “tentpole fantasy epic that’s set to span six feature films.”

At the time, we weren’t sure when Ritchie would get around to the extremely ambitious project, but now it appears that he’ll tackle it next as the studio has just given the first film in the franchise a July 22nd, 2016 release date (in 2D and 3D).

Both Warner Bros. and Ritchie have been trying to make a movie based on the classic tale for years now. If you recall, the project was originally set to have David Dobkin at the helm, with Kit Harington and Joel Kinnaman being eyed to star. Obviously, that fizzled out and now the studio is hoping to find success with the much in-demand British director behind the camera.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any details on Joby Harold’s script and considering that the film is still a long ways off, I wouldn’t expect to hear anything for quite some time. Still, even despite the lack of information, the project certainly sounds very exciting and with a talented director like Ritchie leading the charge, I’m fairly certain that Warner Bros. will finally be able to make their King Arthur dreams come true.
