David Cronenberg films are always an interesting experience. You go in never really knowing what to expect and by the end you either leave absolutely shocked, confused as hell, or a combination of both. One thing’s for sure though, you’ll never come away from a Cronenberg film feeling bored or un-entertained. That, I can guarantee you.
Up next for the Canadian director is Maps to the Stars, which has just premiered a new photo and international poster (seen above and below, respectively) today. For those unfamiliar with the project, it stars his new muse, Robert Pattinson. Likely to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year, the film also boasts a stellar supporting cast, made up of John Cusack, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams and Sarah Gadon.
If that wasn’t enough to get you excited, the plot sounds pretty exciting as well. Maps to the Stars follows the Weiss family, “a Hollywood dynasty where each member has their own array of problems, with drugs, pyromania and ghostly visions all in the mix.” We already know that the film will be rated R, so you can expect Cronenberg’s portrayal of the rich and famous to be pretty out there, likely falling in line with the weirdness that we’ve come to expect from the director.
Maps to the Stars unfortunately does not have a release date as of yet, though once it premieres at Cannes I imagine that will change. Stay tuned as we’ll be sure to keep you posted once we hear more.
