Check Out The First Footage From David Fincher’s Gone Girl

Perhaps one of the more anticipated films of the year is Gone Girl, and for good reason. For one, it's a David Fincher film, need I say more? Two, it stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, among other strong talent (Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry). And three, it's an adaptation of Gillian Flynn's critically acclaimed novel of the same name. Combine all that and you have the recipe for what looks to be one of 2014's most exciting thrillers.

Aside from a few stills, we unfortunately haven’t seen too much from the film. That’s all about to change, though, as Monday will mark the release of the first trailer. While you’ll have to wait a few days before you can check it out, Entertainment Tonight has released a quick look at what’s in store for us. Admittedly, it’s ruined by the annoying voice-over that usually accompanies their previews, but it’s still the first bit of footage from a very highly-anticipated film and despite the brief length (and choppy editing), it’s definitely worth a watch.

What’s shown here focuses mostly on Ben Affleck getting angry and looking confused, but even as someone who hasn’t read the book, I can definitely say I’m intrigued. Gone Girl looks like it will present a gripping mystery and in the hands of someone like David Fincher, I’m sure that the film will be a thrilling ride.

Gone Girl heads to theatres on October 3rd. Check out the first look, and plot summary below and let us know what you think.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?
