The Grand Budapest Hotel Is Now Wes Anderson’s Highest-Grossing Film

The Grand Budapest Hotel has just become Wes Anderson's highest-grossing film to date, and the only one to pass the $100 million mark. Currently, it sits at $103.7 million worldwide, which puts it far ahead of the director's second biggest film, The Royal Tenenbaums ($71 million). Now, while a figure like that may have Marvel execs hitting the panic button, it's important to remember that Anderson's film was only made for a reported $31 million dollars.

The Grand Budapest Hotel has just become Wes Anderson’s highest-grossing film to date, and the only one to pass the $100 million mark. Currently, it sits at $103.7 million worldwide, which puts it far ahead of the director’s second biggest film, The Royal Tenenbaums ($71 million). Now, while a figure like that may have Marvel execs hitting the panic button, it’s important to remember that Anderson’s film was made for $31 million dollars.

Furthermore, The Grand Budapest Hotel has only been in wide release since March 28th. When it first came out back on March 7th, it was playing in just four theatres. Despite this, it still took the record for the highest-grossing limited live action debut of all time.

One more important thing to note here is that Grand Budapest only took in $40 million domestically, the rest came from international markets. That’s not particularly unusual, especially in today’s day and age, but it’s still worth noting.

So, there you have it. Fans of Wes Anderson can now celebrate as the director finally has a $100 million grossing film under his belt. Now the big question becomes, with all that money, what will he do next?

Tell us, what did you think of The Grand Budapest Hotel? Does it deserve to be Wes Anderson’s highest-grossing film of all time? Sound off below!
