A trailer for the upcoming crime film, Cold In Julyfrom director Jim Mickle and starring Emmy Award nominee Michael C. Hall, has been released today. Based on the book by Joe R. Cold In July premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it received generally positive reviews, including one from our own Emily Estep, who gave it 3.5 stars and wrote:

In the end, Cold in July is a unique blend of neo-noir and glorious ‘80s action with a refreshing twist.

From what we see in the trailer, the film looks like an absorbing little genre thriller with some strong performances, especially from Hall, who’s playing a different type of killer than the one that fans usually associate him with. Perhaps the real one to watch out here for though is Mickle, who has proven himself to be one of the most exciting young genre filmmakers thanks to impressive efforts like Stake Land and We Are What We AreCold in July sounds like another winner for the director and I’m eager to see how it matches up to some of his other work.

IFC Films picked up Cold In July at Sundance and currently has it set for release both in theaters and Video on Demand on May 23rd.
