Deadline is reporting that Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Up In The Air) and Sam Rockwell (The Way, Way Back, Seven Psychopaths) have signed on to star opposite each other in Mr. Right, a classic case of a hidden identity that’s bound to cause hilarious problems later on.

Under the direction of Tokarev‘s Paco Cabezas and with a script by American Ultra writer Max Landis, the plot for this one is being described as follows:

“Kendrick will play a woman whose bad luck streak at finding lasting love seems to end when she meets Mr. Right. That’s until she discovers he is a reformed hit man. When his dark past catches up, their fledgling relationship is tested as they try to save one another.”

Okay, so maybe Mr. Right sounds a smidgen like an ’80s action comedy that’s been resigned to the $2.99 bin at Walmart. With only a small synopsis to go on, it’s easy to slug away, but lest we forget that Landis is a hot ticket nowadays. Despite his absence on the upcoming Chronicle 2, he’s been banging away at the typewriter, cranking out stellar scripts left right and centre. American Ultra, Me Him Her and Frankenstein are all on the young scribe’s upcoming slate. So, it’s very possible that he’ll be able to turn what sounds like a bit of a generic story into something rather exciting.

Before Mr. Right hits screens, we’ll see Kendrick and Rockwell team up for Joe Swanberg’s next effort, Digging For Fire. This will mark Kendrick’s second collaboration with the former Mumblecore director, after her brilliant turn in his 2013 crossover hit Drinking Buddies.

Mr. Right enters into production later this year. Excited to see Kendrick and Rockwell engaging in what’ll no doubt be some witty repartee? Of course you are! Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you’re expecting fro the film.
