In the last few years, comedy has been well and truly hi-jacked by Melissa McCarthy. Cast your mind back, and try to recall a recent summer without her trademark banter appearing in one form or another. See? None. This year’s blockbuster season looks set to follow suit with her latest effort, Tammy. Low and behold, there’s a new full-length trailer released today to further whet your appetite.

McCarthy stars as the titular woman who’s just plain down on her luck. She suffers a rather abrasive firing from work, then she discovers her husband has been unfaithful. So, she does what any normal person would do – flee. That is, until her car gets totalled and she resorts to cadging a ride with her alcoholic grandmother, played by Susan Sarandon.

This new trailer expands on the wee glints hinted at in the first teaser, serving as a follow-up to the events of that taster. This time, Tammy attempts to return the money she robbed from a Burger King while arguing with her grandma. You can check out the new trailer below.

Based on a script by McCarthy and husband/director Ben Falcone, Tammy will no doubt appeal to fans of McCarthy’s gallows humour. She’s made a name for herself by nabbing the best scene in any flick she appears in. Starring roles in Bridesmaids, Identity Thief and The Heat, all earned the comedian a hefty following. She also stole the show in her teeny cameo for Judd Apatow’s This Is 40 – as the cantankerous parent with foul mouth.

Joining McCarthy and Sarandon are a slew of comedy greats, as Kathy Bates, Dan Aykroyd, Allison Janney, Nat Faxon, Gary Cole, Mark Duplass and Toni Collette are also along for the ride.

Tammy lands in cinemas on July 2nd.
