MachineGames Creative Director Jens Matthies recently conducted an AMA Reddit interview that answered some nagging questions we’ve had leading up to the release of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the reboot of the popular FPS franchise. Mainly, we now know why the game comes packaged with a whopping four discs on the Xbox 360 and that it will be significantly longer than the standard first-person shooter.

According to Mathies, depending on how much time players take to explore will make or break just how long Wolfenstein: The New Order is, and that observant players will squeeze roughly 20 hours out of the game on a first run.

“If you collect everything and explore everywhere I think a single play through could end up close to 20 hours. But there’s also lots of incentive to make a second play through, especially to explore the alternate time line,”

He also mentioned that there is a choice to make at a pivotal point in the game which will drastically change the “vibe.” Just exactly what he means by “vibe” remains to be seen, but it definitely sounds like two runs will be necessary to experience the full story.

“Most notably is that the player makes a choice early on the outcome of which opens up an alternate time line which changes the vibe of the story,”  “It’s recommended to do a second play through and see what would have happened if you chose differently.”

Wolfenstein: The Nwo Order will be available for both current generation and next-generation consoles on May 20th.
